Howdy boys and girls!

As you can see, and probably already know, the forums have undergone a rather large and extensive upgrade from the old one. Basically this is the newest and shiniest version of the IPB forum software, the one we use. In this post I will explain what exactly has been introduced and how you can use it. Some of this stuff is actually pretty cool.

Status Updates
You can now update your very own status, just like facebook! Oh how useful, 'cause as we all know, people can't get enough of telling random people what pointless stuff they're up to today. Seriously though, it can be useful to announce some things (like if you're going on xbox to play some CoD right now), but please don't use it as a chat box to talk with each other. A shout box is available so you can do just that - forum content should be left within the actual forums though. If you do not wish to view status updates or the rest of the side panel, just hit the Posted Image button.

Reputation System
DPFN now has a reputation system! This is a little different to reputation systems on other forums, so let me explain. Basically all you do is vote up posts you think are especially good, by clicking on the little plus arrow at the bottom right of their post.

Once a post has been voted up, the member who made that post has increased reputation, which you can view in their user profile. This gives everyone a general idea of how great that user is at contributing to the forum, the higher the better.

Watching Topics/Forums
The new forum includes a lot more built in functions for watching content. Now you can click a button to watch topics and forums.

By doing this, you are kept up to date on all new posts in a topic, or all the new topics in a particular forum. As well as being emailed on all of these updates, you will be able to see them along the side of the main forum view in this fancy little box.

If you want to stop watching a topic or forum, just click on the stop watching button, located in the same place as the watch button.

View New Content
Rather than the old "My Assistant" and "View New Posts" features of the previous forum, there is now a catch-all "View New Content" screen to show you in a glance at everything new going on in the forum. This includes new topics, posts, members, help files and entries in the calander, making it much easier to keep up to date with DPFN happenings. You can access this by clicking on it at the top right of the forum screen, under the search box.

Mini Profile Popup
Wherever you see Posted Image on the site (which is just about everywhere a member name appears), it can be clicked for a handy mini-profile popup. Send a PM, check reputation or find posts - without needing to leave the current page.

Topic Rating
Topics can be rated one to five stars, so users can identify the topics that others rate highly - or poorly!

I thought pretty long about whether to include a negative rating option or not, but I just felt that there's really no reason to rate someone's post badly - that's just mean. :geek:

No post is that bad, you know?

The reputation ranks are now similar to the Bungie forum ranks, I love the way they've got it set up.
